Water pressure gauge

I hooked up an mercury water pressure gauge to my 115 hp engine. On the head or water jacket there is a plug that I removed and installed the fitting into the head put the hose into the fitting it has a plastic tip the fitting where you just push the hose into and release. Ok all good however I left too much hose on the end and have it bundled in the engine, How do you or can you release the hose form the fitting in the head it is just a " push in and release " set up ?
