Re: Water pressure

You will need to be more specific unless someone has their esp working today.

Re: Water pressure

Ya gotta have water pressure to cool the engine.
Water pressure indicates that the water pump is functioning.
No water pressure would indicate an obstructed water intake, an excessively trimmed motor or outdrive, or a failed waterpump. And engine overheat/ failure is emminent.

Unless it is inside the boat, pushing it down. :)

Re: Water pressure

I guess it has to do with cooling then. I was talking about the posts about jack plates and trim that alluded to water pressure.

Re: Water pressure

ae - A jack plate allows you to change the height of the motor. You can get to the point when raising the motor that the water pick-up for the water pump starts sucking air. The water pressure guage will pick this up as decreasing pressure.

Over time the water pressure guage tells you the overall condition of your water pump. Lets say you have a new pump installed and get a reading of 20 pounds while on plane. A year later it shows 18 pounds and a year after that 16. That tells you that it is time to do the water pump again.

Re: Water pressure

Thanks for the answers guys. Since I have a pitiful 3.0 I/O I guess I don't have to worry about that stuff.

Re: Water pressure

Oh yes you do!

Neglect the various issues raised here about water pressure - whether inside the engine or outside (hopefully) the boat, and you'll be all at sea without a paddle! Size of motor or boat doesn't come into it.

Can't venture out on the water without being conscious of water pressure, even if it's just opening a can of beer (mostly water nowdays).
