I have a 1995 mercury 40 ss#06225670 that will not pump water. Noticed problem as soon as I started motor yesterday after traveling 2 hours to fish! removed intake screen at bottom of motor and there was pieces of what I assume was the impeller. Please give me step by step instructions on how to repair and replace this part. Also it would really be helpful if someone could let me know what part #s I need to order the impeller and any gaskets or seals i will need to complete the operation. Someone told be that my waterpump was bad before I found these pieces. Is the impeller what they were refering to or could I also have a water pump problem? Since I plan on doing the work myself, please try to be as specific as possible with part #s and directions.null

Re: Water Problems

Ok , first step is easy. Go to your local boating store and buy a manual! :)

If you go to www.mercruiserparts.com you can look the part # up yourself. The impeller is all that pumps, and is what you need, buy the complete kit for a little more money. It will come with a new liner for the impeller to ride on, don't skimp on it!

Mercs are rather easy to change, just pull the lower unit bolts, dont forget the one under the trim tab! It will drop down, and you will see the impeller housing. Good luck!
