I have a 1962 CD-19 5.5 HP Johnson and it won’t spit water. It is in great condition but hasn’t been used in maybe 30 years. Been sitting in the attic. It started right up after a couple times but again it is not spitting water. What should I do to get it running correctly? Also is there anything on these motors that typically should get replaced?

You have to remove the powerhead ( engine block ) to disconnect the shift rod.----Actually very simple work.----Just 7 screws to remove.----Some hoses.----Carburetor knobs as well.----2 nuts on top of the shift rod.----Silly way to build a motor some would say.----I say it is a way to build a motor so that shift can never be mis adjusted !!-----This motor will last for generations with simple care.----The coils will need to be checked under the flywheel.----These coils if original will be cracked.----New ones today can be found for fewer $$ than 50 years ago.----Most things have gone up in cost but not these coils.

Forgot to mention it.----Check the thermostat as I often find them stuck open.---Lately have found some that would not open in boiling water.---Easy to check.
