Hello everyone. So I installed my new water pump and I have a concern. When I went to put the new pump base in, it sort of went down, but didn't seat against the housing until I tightened everything down. It didn't exactly "pop" into place like I heard its supposed to. Since its my first time installing , am wondering if its common for them to be difficult sometimes? Its fully seated against the gasket and the housing now.

List what drive you have and part you used. There are 2 different bases. The upper parts are all the same.

I have a mercruiser R drive, I do believe. Not 100% sure. It has a pre-load pin on top of the shaft so I used kit 18-3317.

That's the right kit for your gear housing. I've sometimes had that happen.. It feels 'soggy'... As long as it pressure tests ok, you're fine...

preload pin base is somewhat flared and MR,Alpha is more of a flat base. the kit number appears correct.

pressure testing it now. Turned up a custom fitting at work. It hasn't moved from 14psi in five hours. Ive even been rotating the shaft periodically too.
