Thank God for all you guys on Iboats, helping us when we try to do it ourselves. I am putting a seal kit in my 25r73a pull rope. TOUGH JOB! My problem is the old water pump empella has four fingers going in one direction, and the other two going in the other direction. I need to know which way to install it . Please help!!!

Re: water pump empella

The flywheel rotates CW and so does the water pump looking at the top of the flywheel. There's no way the pump operated without all the vanes in the same orientation, unless some of them were partially broken off. Make sure to carefully inspect the housing and wear plate. If either has any scoring, replace. Complete kits are likely to produce better results for most people.

See Top Secret File sticky for more water pump help.

Here's my (bad) drawing of what the impeller should look like when properly installed. I would get a new one, just to be safe. You should be able to get it right here at iboats for about $20. A bit of vaseline can help installation too. Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

I am going to second the idea of NOT reinstalling that impellar. Chuck it in the garbage.

Re: water pump empella

Thank you guys for the info and the diagrams. The old impeller vanes were not broken and did straighten out when removed. It did keep the engine cool too. But I guess I didn't tell you that I had planed on replacing it anyway. It was less than $12.00 plus shipping. I got the seals and impeller from Iboats. Great place to buy parts. Thanks again to all of you for helping.

I thought water pump vanes pretty much self corrected but maybe not unless you turned your drive shaft backwards a little bit when you removed it lifeboat.
Anyway when you're putting it back together turn your driveshaft clockwise (looking from the top) as you put the water pump housing over the impeller.
