Hi guys last time I brought a water pump repair kit it included a gasket to sit under the steel plate, I'm replacing the impeller but to get a new gasket it looks like I need to buy a whole repair kit instead of just the impeller. When I look at the schematic it doesn't show the gasket, is the gasket necessary or does it just come as an extra in the repair kit? It's a 1980 50hp model number J50ECSR

Since water pumps are very common, you can usually have a choice of GLM, Sierra, Mallory as well as OEM versions of multiple repair kits. Not sure I understand what you are looking for. Go on the crowleymarine web site and maybe you can buy individual parts for that motor as well as kits.

As you say the parts schematic does not show a gasket for this model. There is no need for one.

If there was one in the repair kit it may be because the same kit is suitable for a range of different motors some of which may have a gasket below the plate.
