When you say spin, do you mean turns forward or reverse when the engine is running on muffs? Like its in gear? Or do you mean it just barely turns when the engine idles on muffs?

Another question - when the engine is off and in neutral, can you spin the prop freely by hand?

I usiually put shifter in foreward gear and shift fork in foreward gear on lower unit this allows you to turn the prop to allingn splines. This is how Iwas taught at the dealership where i used to work.

You want to install the gearcase when it is in neutral. Make sure the control is in neutral as well. Turn the flywheel by hand to align driveshaft splines.

Prop should rachet when prop turned CW in forward. Prop should spin freely when in neutral. Prop should turn about 1/2 turn either way when in reverse.

Hi guys. The prop spins freely in a clockwise movement but makes a clicking sound every half a turn or so.when i turn prop anticlockwise it is not free. The throttle shift is in neutral but when i start up the prop spins. Its like i need to recalibrate the shift linkage or something.

I'm not sure about your specific model, but on many outboards, the prop will spin slowly in neutral. This is caused by the oil circulation in the lower unit.
