Water pump help

I have a 1987 evinrude 88 spl and I'm try to see who can tell me the best way to remove the bolt from the shift rod so I can pull the foot off. I've pulled the carbs off and still can't get to it. Was told to put it in reverse and try it but no luck with that so any info will gladly be appreciated. Thanks

Stop--No need for that video-----Reverse not needed. ----Neutral works.--------No wrenches required.----Just a pair of pliers.---Starboard side of the motor.-----Find the L-shaped shift lever that goes under the bottom carburetor.-----Remove the hitch pin ( pliers ) on that lever.-----Now push that lever to the port side and rotate that lever.-----Shift rod is now disconnected !!!----Simpler to do it tan to explain it.---
