I own a 1987 Regal with a 3.0 Merc with a alpha one drive. I bought the Sierra Pump housing kit (18-3320) for a complete overhaul on my water pump. I have the Seloc book and the tech book (thank you Don) and both don't correlate very well on impeller replacement. Which is why I think I maybe missing these pieces;

Groove Pin (tech book)
Impeller drive pin, dowel pin (Seloc Manual)

By chance is the Groove pin and the dowel pin the same thing? And where does this part go? In the gear housing assembly there is a spot that looks like it would hold a dowel.

(The Groove pin I found with an OE number of 17-42836.)

The water pump base has a slot for the Impeller drive pin, I think? Is there any special way that it has to be installed? After a search around the web I cant seem to be able to buy the Impeller drive pin. By chance any body know dims?

How come the simplest things always turn into a nightmare :facepalm:.

No dowel pin is used there,there are 2 plastic ones in the water pump base that the SS plate locates on.
The impelller keyway locates on the driveshaft ,not the base.

Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiCgHTrMKTw and part TWO.

This is all I used to do the change on mine. BTW, the "Impeller drive pin" you're referring to might be the "key-way" that's talked about at 8:10 of the video... good luck. Just did mine. Piece of cake. The hardest part is putting the lower back to the upper.

I would think its more like a rolled pin, maybe it's solid. The pics will show what I'm talking about.

Sorry for the confusion.

that "pin" is now a keyway that you should have removed when you took yours apart.. The slot in the plastic base is only a drain cavity.

:facepalm: Well I feel like an idiot. :facepalm:

From the pic in the Seloc book it looked like the pin came from the base ( I didn't think they were talking about the shaft).
I'm getting too jumpy for my own good. My boat was from a single owner and I assumed well taken care of. We all know what assume means in real life. I'm finding a-lot of stuff wrong and it making me second guess everything.

Thank you Bt Doctur

Thanks CaptainMak for the you-tube link. I never even thought to look there.
