water pump impeller question

I am changing out the impeller on a 1981 Rude 150. The impeller that was originally installed had a round pin to lock it to the driveshaft. My replacement kit has a wedge type insert but a keyway on the impeller. Question is: Can I use a standard key to match the new impeller or should I get an impeller to match the wedge type insert? There is no keyway on the driveshaft, just a flat.
Thanks
Rob

Re: water pump impeller question

The impeller should have come with the proper key. If your shaft has the flat area, use an impeller that uses the wedge type key...Do you have the replacement kit number from the package? We can make sure you have the right one...
