1989 5.0 Mercuiser AlphaI. Engine overheated, replaced complete water pump in lower unit. Gauge now reads about 140 degrees but am wondering what cools pump housing? I am getting water out of vents at back of transom but not out of hub exhaust (should I?), or am I just melting pump housing down again with exhaust gases?

If you're just running on the hose then you will only get water out of transom.I'm sure the water that is now getting pumped inside the housing is sufficcient to cool it.

Outboardguy, Thank you, just wasn't sure didn't want to buy another pump assembly so soon. Great to have this forum available.
