Water pump issue

I posted this on Club Sea Ray but haven’t had any responses, but I’ll give you the skinny in the services performed and then the issue I currently have.

Last winter I had some stern drive service done, u-joint, bellows, gimbal bearing, shift cable etc. Then a few weeks ago I replaced the starter, plugs, cables, distributor cap and rotor, OEM Dry Joint manifolds, risers, elbows, OEM valve covers, PCv, as well as rebuilt my Hardin Marine stainless steel water pump with new wear plate, impeller, gasket etc.

Today I wanted to fire it up to make sure everything is operating properly. Started and sounded great, however nothing from the water pump.

Here’s what i wrote on CSR;

post 1
Any reason why a newly rebuilt Hardin water pump wouldn’t be pumping water? I purchased the rebuild kit sans bearings, went to start and no water coming out of the drive. New wear plate, gasket, impeller, etc. Waited about a minute, nothing and the hose water pressure seemed the same, not being sucked up into the pump. I then pulled the drain plug on the pump and no water.

post 2
Checked the pump, impeller is fine, plate is fine but bone dry. I had the outdrive serviced over the winter, is it possible something got disconnected or was never reconnected?

post 3
Poured water down the intake tube toward the drive and water coming out of the input holes on the bravo 3, Tried priming the pump as well filling the intake tube, and filled the block back up full of water. Still nothing. Some water (minimal) came out from the block via the stern drive but no water being drawn from the hose by the pump?

I added all of the service I have done to it hoping that will help in trying to isolate the issue. So far I’ve had no luck. It usually just takes the water from the muffs, I’ve never had to prime, but now I got nothing.

And you're working on a..... ? (Make, model, serial numbers)

These things need to be the first line in every new thread...

If you mean on the pump, I don’t see how. Two different sized hoses and the intake is red. Plus I never take the intake off of the pump housing because there’s a quick disconnect about 18” up.

Update for those interested:
The Gen 7 SS Hardin water pump requires you to use the the back plate from the original OEM pump. On my particular back plate there is an internal stainless steel plate between the inlet and the outlet ports. When I rebuilt the pump, I must have thrown that out with the gasket, because the Permatex would have stuck to it. So the $10 part will probably cost me $200 because I had my local marina look into it. Lesson learned.
