Water pump metal cup

Yet another silly newbie question. How do I remove and replace the metal cup in the water pump housing? 20 HP rude, 89 model. Thanks so much for the help.

You would buy a new kit, which contains the cup, housing, etc....

If you are replacing it with a new one, you might be able to grab the open area of the cup with some vice grips and pull it out. Sounds like yours might be stuck a little?? Might also be able to pop it out with a screw driver.

The new one justs gets pushed in like the old one is. There are two metal prongs that fit into the impellor housing.........as long as the holes and prongs are lined up, it will pop right in.

I have the kit, I just do not see how the cup comes out and goes in. What holds it in and keeps it from turning?

The two prongs at the bottom of the cup that go into slots in the housing keep it from turning.......The housing being bolted to the gearcase and the impellor plate keep the cup from coming out.....

Thanks, I got now. I'd be floundering without real mechanics to help out.
