Water pump on murcury outboard not pissing<for lack of a better term>

For anyone kind of enough to view/comment on my last post on trying to start up a 6 year sat outboard engine I thank you. Now on to this water pump deal . After getting the boat started <thanks to my neighbor> we now encountered the problem of the top hose and water pump not circulating water through the engine , and not risking it over heating have to stop running the engine <which Id like to run it at least to burn out the gas I put in> I was wonder if there was anything I could do before take apart the lower unit of the engine and taking on that project , thank you very much .

hmmmm obviously it sounds like your pump isnt filling up your block.... you need to drop the lower unit to inspect... what model did you have again?

Its a Mercury 75 , as for the year Im not sure it can be anywhere from an 89 to a 92. hope that helps and for someone who is not so boat handy it is certainly not so obvious >> ty

75 as in 7.5 horsepower right?

I'm not entirely certain on the horsepower , but what I do know is that I found a link using the iboats search engine and found plenty of useful information. Unfortunetly Im going to have to replace the entire pump in the lower unit , which Im not too certain I can do , but I wont fail from lack of trying . Ill will also use the engines serial number to find out what I need to know about the year model and make.

p.s.
oh and doest the lettering on the motor most of the time indicate the horsepower?
