Took the motor into the shop yesterday with a starting problem. Called me back today claiming the engine started right up and idled fine, however once it heated up water quit flowing from the indicator hole and the engine became very hot very fast. This was puzzling to me since I installed an entire pump kit no more than five minutes of run time ago, so it seems almost impossible that I need a replacement impeller. My guess is that something is wonky with the thermostat or the pressure valves.

What do you think?

What do I think?? I suppose it would be worthwhile to check the thermostat, if only to satisfy your mind. But I doubt that is the problem. Sorry, I could only guess what went wrong with your water pump job. Do you think it is possible that somebody started it out of the water and melted the pump?

What "indicator hole" are you referring to? That engine never had a telltale.

I installed a tell line first thing when I got it, can't stand not knowing. I have a peek at the impeller- I did do a blunder the other day and ran it for about 45 secs with the water off, but it still seemed to pump after that. Considering that it will pump fine then stop is a real boggler, can't imagine what that means.
Anyway, I'll check the impeller, see if she's melted down or not.
Thanks
