Water pump problem

I have a 2-stroke 1989 Yamaha 50hp DETO (European model, quite similar to US -89 50 hp models) which needed some gasket/seal replacements in the lower unit (water got leaked into gear oil). Official Yamaha dealer/repair center changed the gaskets etc. but I put the unit back. Now the problem is that the water won't come out of the tell tale so I assume that I just reassembled the water pump incorrectly or did something else worng(before the removal of the unit all worked well). The impeller and pump housing should be assembled ok according to manual, so I browsed some forums and people suggested that first thing is to check the alignment of the water tube. When I removed the lower unit it came of without any tube, so where can I find the water tube and how I'm able to align it correctly before I put the unit back?

Thanks in advance for replies!

Re: Water pump problem

the tube is held captive in the midsection not on the lower unit. look in the midsection cavity, carefully inspect the housing for any signs of melting, any sign and its scrap.
after reasembling and when running carefully blow out the passages for the tell tale. it likes to clog at the exhaust cover nipple and the plastic restrictor in the cowl.

Re: Water pump problem

Water tube seems to be ok and shouldn't it automatically align itself correctly when the unit is put back, because there isn't any slack in any directions?

Other thing that came in mind is the direction of impeller. Should the "wings" be facing clockwise or counterclockwise (see the picture)? And the last one is the impeller key, I hadn't checked it out because I didn't remove it (actually didn't know it even existed...). What about the key, how should it be installed to the drive shaft and how should the impeller be installed to the key.

Sorry about the dumb questions, but this is the first time when I'm reassembling the water pump and the lower unit.
