Water Pump Problems

I replaced the impeller on my 7.5 Mercury ss# 5699434, But there is very little to no water coming through the drain on the side of the motor. I pulled lower unit and checked for blockage in the line from the water pump through the copper lines both ways. There was some blockage from the water pump up to the motor. After cleaning this out I noticed that when I unpopped the cover on the ???(exhaust /water) and put water in to see if it drained, water came out of another hole inside the upper unit next to where the main line hooks up and the drain hole on the side of the motor. Is this normal or have I done something wrong. This doesnt have a line hooked up to it and means water is draining back into the lower unit. This hole is so small that the copper line can not hook up to it I have serched for a diagram on the net but cant find anything remotely close to what I am searching for. Any suggestions?

dont know for sure but the 7.5 should be the same as my 9.8.ran inot the same thing.could not find a diagram either.wound up taking the powerhead off to inspect the source of the water.(it is supposed to do that)maybe some one with more knowledge of these motors will let you know somthing.
