water pump question for 72 9.5 seahorse

I have just replaced the impeller for the water pump my question is this, should have I replaced the seal that keep water out of gear oil there is no water in oil now but does the seal withstand driveshaft removal without developing a future leak? thanks for any help

There's no need to replace the seal if it's not leaking. Be sure to change the lower unit lube at the end of each season and watch for water in the oil. If you find water in the oil, then replace seal(s) and do a pressure test of lower unit.<br />Be sure shaft is clean with a light coating of oil when inserting the shaft into the seal.
