Hi Everyone. I just picked up this Gamefisher motor 7.5 hp Model # 217-586752. I know that it was built by Eska. I have two questions which are... I got the motor running in a garbage can filled with water... how much water should be coming out of the upper 2 holes, if any... and what is the purpose of this water pump??? The engine is air cooled. I am new to boating so sorry for sounding dumb. Thanks in advance for your help guys/gals.

Re: Water Pump question

The water pump is to cool the exhaust. From what I hear you need the water pump or else your motor will overheat even though its air cooled.

In the least water should be spitting and spraying out of one of those holes.
The water does not shoot out like a you see on outboards with pee holes.

Use 2-stroke oil that is made for air cooled engines like chain saws.

Re: Water Pump question

While 2 stroke chain saw oil is not wrong it is simpler to just use TCW3 rated outboard oil.Without exception my research indicates all aircooled 2 strokes from 1955 to 85 recommend quality outboard oil.My Citgo TCW3 rated oil states for all 2 stroke applications from string trimmers to outboards.
The exception is high performace engines such as the Rotax which heve their own specific high performance oil recommendations.

Re: Water Pump question

Thanks for the advice. I eneded up changing the pump body and base this weekend and it run much better... There was a good mist coming out at idle and a nice spray at high RPMs, but... After I ran it it, and took it out of my test barrel I noticed gear oil coming out so I ordered all new seals for the gear housing and some little parts for the engine/carb that I will be replacing htis coming weekend. CertifiedPartsCorp is an excellent anx inexpensive website that has everything I needed. Thanks again for all the advice.
