I have a question. My Evinrude model number is E88MSLCER and serial number is R08158562. I want to know if you know where I can get a good deal on a water pump for my engine. I am still planning on replaceing the water pump very soon. Thank you

did ya ever get the lower unit off :) ?
for the jonny rudes the napa number seems to work well. one of the few sierra parts I will use. try a napa number 18-3392. are ya gonna do the T-stats as wellas the pump? if you use the BRPparts the t-ststs need tobe notched if they are not from the factory . my preference is the sierra part # 18-3553 t-stat and you will need 2 of them, what I do if going aftermarket is use the auqa power part # 2658 t-stat kit and use 2 18-3553 t-stats. unless the kit now comes with self flushing vented t-stats. I have not bought one in the last 6 months or so. also modify the t-stat housing vent. its a small hole at the top almost center. drill the vent out to 1/8th. or your next post may be runs fine for 3 min then the hot horn sounds. let it sit 5 min and its fine the rest of the day.

No I haven't got the lower unit off. I definitely will though before I go boating for the first time. Rodbolt You were asking if I was going to change the Thermostats. I was just going to go ahead and replace the water pump only. I didn't think the thermostats needed to be replaced also. I will go ahead and buy the original water pump kit from a marine dealer for Evinrude motors. There is a Cope Marine dealership here in O'fallon, Illinois. This
way I don't have to do any modifications to any thing. Just take the old pump off and bolt on the new one without drilling modifying etc. Is this what you would suggest.

Do you know what part number I need for the water pump replacement if I use original Evinrude parts. I figure this way I might have to spend a lttle more for it but will have original parts that I know will work without doing any modifications. Should I replace any lower Leg unit seals that mate it up with the upper section since it is removed or will those seals be alright?

hello
on that old a motor the exhaust pipe seals should be replaced most likly. dont wait till a t-stat fails. the stats cost the same with or without a piston. it is easier to change them while the powerhead is off for a rebuild.on an outboard ya need to be proactive not reactive with maint. if you use the BRP t-stats make sure the poppet is vented. if I use them I cut the vent with a dremmel tool and the tiny carbide cutter.
