Water Pump Replacement

Can someone explain how to replace the water pump in around a 1990 model elt 40 mariner... any things i need to watch for inparticular or be careful about? any information would be greatly appreciated... and iknow this may seem cheap trying to get help like this but im on a really tigh budget with my boat...

Hi and welcome to the forums....

First... tight budget or not.... Go buy the manual... If you plan to save money by doing your own repairs and maintenance.... this is the best investment you can make... Word of caution - get the OEM manual, the after-market (solec/clymer) aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

Second... posting here will get more results if you list the following: make, model, serial number, and in your case, number of cylinders as 40s came in 2, 3 and 4.

Try Merc themselves or any one of the dozens of on-line suppliers... May be even e-bay....

ok thanks for your help man... i will defintely look into purchasing a book on my motor.. but the info you requested as far as model and all is:

Mariner
model- 40elt0
code- 6e9 L
serial- 503242

You will need to post that info each time you ask a question... There are just too many people here for us to remember what each person's engine serial number and model is....

Also that engine.... 1987. You also need to say that it's 2 cylinder, yammy mariner.

The other option is to do as I have.... make it your signature and then you don't have to remember, it's always there....

That link it for Merc Mariners, not Yammy mariners... I think the shift shaft on the yammy is threaded together with a barrel, but I'm not positive....
