shift to forward, remove 6 screws attaching gearcase to exhaust housing < gearcase ( lower unit ) should drop down ~1">, remove lower screw from the brass coupler, lower unit with driveshaft should now slip out...google Leeroy's Ranblings and find his writings on the 9.9/15 hp. models it'll all be covered there as well as pics
