Can someone please inform me if it is required to replace the drive shaft seal located on the top of the water pump housing. Although, there is some wear on the drive shaft itself where the shaft and seal make contact, the seal appears in good shape. The replacement water pump kit [wear plate, gaskets, impeller, bolts, pump housing] available for the one piece drive shaft models does not appear to come with a new shaft seal. Help is greatly appreciated.

Probably would not hurt but not necessary. The seal is about 20 bucks on its own. If you are seeing water or milky white gear oil in the gear housing then you might want to get a seal kit which would include the seal. If oil is clean then dont mess with it.
