Water Pump Shaft Removal

Hello everybody,

I gotta replace a water pump shaft on my omc cobra outdrove. I haven't touched it since I bought the boat, but it kept on stripping the water pump impeller unless it was made out of brass, even then, it appeared as if the previous owner had a problem with it and literally cut the water pump shaft (???), there's also marks of them using a hydraulic pipe wrench to undo the retainer for the drive as you'll see in the pictures.

My question is, how do I remove the water pump shaft by itself? I have a press and all the tools to do it but I'd want to do it properly, not a hackjob like previous owner or their mechanic, perhaps.

He doesn't go through with the removal of the shaft itself, I don't have the whole yoke assembly, just the shaft itself that gets pressed into the water pump yoke assembly.
