This is a new to me motor:

Is there a way to tell if the water tube is connected well after installing the Lower unit?

I have water coming from the prop exhaust and lots of water coming from the cavitation area. Also looks like a small pee hole in front of the lower unit and water streams well from there.

I ordered a new T-stat and there was NOT a t-stat in the motor.

After idling for a while I`m not sure if the engine is running to hot or not.I can hold my finger on the head maybe 2-3 seconds.

I have the water hose on full blast.

I just had a little dribble coming from the relief valves.

What kinda worries me is that there was no t-stat in the engine. Sorta tells me the PO may have had a cooling issue with the motor.

I`ll check local part houses for a infrared themometer.

Well, checked the temp with the infrared themometer and 146* was the highest reading on all cylinders and the t-stat housing was 142*

This was at idle on the muffs for about 10 min.

I think I had too much water pressure going thru the muffs earlier, I used half pressure and had good flow out the prop exhaust. I quess I am used to the big crossflow. Thanks TD , my mind is at ease now.

Next, 3 carbs to rebuild this week-end

You will not get a good indication of water flow or proper cooling running on muffs. What many forget is that using muffs is for flushing your motor only.It will not run properly without the back pressure you need to have water and exhaust coming out in all the right places.
