Marc 28 AD just will not break loose. Made a puller out of 3/16 copper rod. Not sure though if the wings the right size to fit into the groove. Need to know the right size. I tried to get tool but no luck. I used a lot of pen oil and tried all day, cutting the wings down several times to get into the right grove. Having no cutaway to see where to insert wings makes it tough. This is the last phase of my restoration before I order new parts to start the reassembly. Clams says to FLMD it what's that! You can tell this is my first effort on an outboard.

For those who check the forum for simular problems first this will help. I was able to remove water pump by going in from the top end with a one inch bar and catch the lip of the cartrige and a few sound taps with the hammer remove the assembly.Of course I had removed the drive shaft amd tras and power head. The tool is a worthless peace of s___.

FLMD = Friendly Local Merc Dealer.

Many people have ruined those lower units trying to get that pump apart. Don't become a statistic.

It takes the special Merc tool, some heat, and penetrating oil. I have a Mark 58 and I'M sending the lower off for rework. Just safer that way.

-W

Clams, Thanks, the pump in the 28 is not in the lower unit but above the trans. It's out and looks ok. I took it to my FLMD and he refused to work on this old motor as he did not want to invest in old tools. He was not so friendly. I will buy a new impeller for $14.oo and not look back. I now start on reassembly which will be fun. I need to know the original paint scheme if you know.
Ron
