Water Pump?

My step dad has a 76' Ranger with 170 Vovlo inboard. We took it out for the first time last weekend and it overheated. Figured it was the thermostat because water was coming out of the petcocks except for one right after the thermostat housing and after we took it out, it was rusty so he boiled it, worked fine but it's still overheating. I was told to look into the water pump, supposedly the fins go bad? It sat for 2 years before he bought it. We can't really think of anything else that would cause it to start overheating. Any suggestions for him?

Re: Water Pump?

Absolutely.....Change the sea water pump. If any of the rubber blades/fins are missing you will need to find them also. The broken pieces, caught up in the engine cooling ckt, can restrict water flow.
