Hello. I am new to this site. I have a Suzuki DT 40 1986 that I want to replace the water pump on. I plan to do it myself. I have a manual and have been doing some studying up on it. It doesn't look to complicated so why pay the mechanic 100+ dollars for something I can do myself? My question is.... Is there anything that might catch me off guard or is it pretty straight forward. Thanks in advance.

Re: Water Pump

I'm new to this site as well. I change the impeller in my 70hp two-stroke every year (probably overkill, but why not?)...it is very straight forward.

The only things I've had minor issues with:

make sure to line up the drive shaft properly...your manual should tell you how to check to make sure you've done this correctly

also, make sure to replace the lower unit oil...I almost forgot once, since I was doing so many other things to the boat and engine...thank goodness I came to my senses!

good luck!
