water scamp laws on the water

Does anyone know if water scamps controlled with a trolling motor has to follow the same laws and regulations as a regular boat?<br /><br />Is there a certain distance a water scamp is allowed to go out.<br /><br />i take my boys jug fishing and i am teaching them how to steer with trolling motor on the scamp.<br /><br />slycamp

Don't know exactly what you mean by a scamp, but a boat is a boat is a boat. And a motor is a motor is a motor. Registration, lifejackets, etc.<br /><br />Here's something for you to help teach them.<br /><br /> http://www.boat-ed.com/ok/ok_internet.htm

Dont know about oklahoma but in texas if it has a motor of anykind it has to follow all boating laws and be registered if used on public water.

This would also be a great way to teach them boating ettiquet (sp).

slycamp:<br />The web site roscoe should cover most of the answers. But you should also check your local fish regs.. in our state they say ANY floating devive with a motor connected is considered a boat with a motor.<br /><br />Have a good one<br />Link

Same here in NY. If you float a dead tree and put a motor (gas, electric or anything) onto it, you have to get a hull number assigned by DMV, register it, and follow all the powered boat rules.
