I was looking to install a water separating fule filter on my boat. I have a 1976 mercury 1150 motor. what are some of the best water separating filters that you guys would recommend? Also,I don't believe there are any other fule filters throught the motor besides the screens that sit on the float bowl top. If there is a filter somewhere on the motor that I should be made aware of, where would it be? Thank guys!!

There should be a filter housing/screen on the starboard side of the powerhead between the fule pump and the carbs.
The 6 gallon Mercury tanks have a filter screen at the end of the pickup you can remove and clean.

Merc850 on my motor ot looks like there is two fule pumps (see diagram) and I don't see a filter. Should I splice one in? Also, do you have any recommendations on a water separating fule filter?

Save your self a couple of bucks and buy a cheap filter mounting bracket then install a Racor replacement filter on that.

Gee, I would expect most '76 Merc 1150s to have a plastic cap on the leading edge of a figure 8-shaped fuel pump. Under that plastic cap should be a fine screen. They do show dual fuel pumps on certain models.

Under the brass elbows on the "back Drag" carb covers, there also should be a screen. The cylindrical covers on the non backdrag carb covers have a banjo filter on tham.

Also, looking to put new lines on the gas tank. What sizes are recommend? Lastly, I'm finally getting smart and will invest in a repair manual. Should I buy a shop manual one or just a regular one?

Let me be more clear.

Most '76 Merc 1150 models had a single fuel pump with a screen under the plastic cap. Some models had dual fuel pumps, w/o screens.

Also, most 1976 Merc 1150 models had the flat back drag carb covers. These had screens under the brass elbows on each carb cover. Other models had the older cylindrical covers on top of the carb bowl covers. These had banjo filters.

5/16 fuel line will work, but I would recommend 3/8" fuel line, to ease burden on fuel pump(s).
