Hello,
My fuel tank is position at the bow of the boat. Where is the best place to install a water separator? Close to the engine or close to the tank. The fuel hose is about 14 feet long. For me it is more convenient to install it near the tank but... your opinion comes first!!!
Thanks

Re: Water separator

The factory installation on my Mercruiser is on a bracket at the front of the engine.

You can install your water separator near the tank-that's where mine is because it was simplier for me to install and maintain. Install it so it's easy to change the filter. I've seen in some setups it's easier to have it before the engine. I don't know if it really matters as long as you have one.

Dutch

You didn't mention what kind of power you have but 14' is a looooong fuel hose. I would be a bit concerned that the filter would be an added strain on your fuel pump. Having said that I wouldn't be without a filter.

Re: Water separator

Thanks for all your answers.
My outboard is Mariner 90HP.
It's been always so long the fuel hose and there wasn't any problem to pump fuel from the tank.
The reason I ask where to install it is because there is no conviniet place to install it near the engine.
Thnaks again
