150hp Mariner Year:1993<br />The water squirting out of the tell tale hole from the back of the engine is fairly strong, but extremely hot to the point where you can't hold your hand under it. Is this normal? Ran it all day today, no alarms, temp gage read no hotter than 120 degrees. Dont really trust that gage. Water pump changed two years ago. Could it be thermostats and could I remove them and run it to make sure? Any help is appreciated.

Re: water temp

Figure out how hot 143 degrees is? then hold your hand unde that. Most hot water tanks are set for 120-134 degrees for comparison. If you remove the cowling and run it and can put you hand on the heads, you should be ok.

Thanks for the quick response. Just for info, at what temp do the alarms go off? What is the max operating temp of this engine? I am a tech info junkie.

I would have to look to be sure, but I think 240 and cool down and resets at 220.

Good to know that, I did no realize that it operated tht high. Could you identify the exact year of my Mariner 150, Ser#OD124111. Was told it was a 1993 or 1992. Which is it?
