I have a 1996 Mercruiser 5.7L (SN# 0F774677) attached to a SeaRay 190 Bow Rider. The water temperature is reading way too hot and does not seem to move once the engine is turned on. Before the engine is warmed up it heads up to 180'F. Infrared reading on the thermostat housing read 125' at idle after warmup. I troubleshooted the system by checking for corrosion everywhere, disconnecting the temperature sender unit (dropped to low), grounding the temperate sender lead (pegged to high), and replacing the sending unit itself (now stuck at 190'F while motor is running). It seems that the gauge itself is working based on the grounding test but with a new sender installed it is still not functioning properly. I did install the new sender with dielectric grease to ensure a good ground. Any further troubleshooting on the gauge itself I can do? Not sure what else to check.
