I'm not sure if this is the correct spot to post this but here goes...

I have 4 kids, ages 4 to 11. I want to buy a towable tube or something similar so we can have some family fun. Does anybody have any suggestions? What's good? What's bad? What's your experiences?

Re: Water Toys

For young kids (up to about 10) use a tube that they can sit inside. For all others a "convertible" type is great. These are a low profile tube with no sides. If a kid is not scared belly boarding on a kneeboard is good too. I don't allow kids to kneeboard strapped in as I am not comfortable with them strapped in. (a kneebord will float you upside down if strapped on)

HTH's

DougV>

Re: Water Toys

RatFish, I have a couple different towables, one that works great for the younger kids is called the SilverBullet. It's big but you can get 2 or 3 kids on it and give them a pretty good ride without dumping them. It works great to get the kids used to being behind the boat. My tube is made by Connelly, it works great for everyone. The little ones feel comfortable and you can give the adults all they can handle. The center is open and the hole is small enough to keep your backside off the deck and low profile enough to climb back on after you've been dumped. I've been pulling this tube for 4 years and haven't popped a seem or leaked a bit of air.

Re: Water Toys

Djvan, I kind of figured that a towable the kids could sit inside would be best, especially for the younger ones. When my kids get comfortable, tubing, I’ll be sure to ask them about water skis, wake boarding and knee boarding. No straps though.

Montanaman, Thanks for your input. It sounds like the Silver Bullet would work well for me. I think the youngins would be comfortable without being intimidated. On the other hand, it sounds like the older kids and adults would have a blast. I’ll be sure to check it out the Silver Bullet. Thanks again for your suggestion.

Re: Water Toys

UPDATE: I'd like to thank everyone that responded. After reading everyone’s opinions (multiple times) and considering my passengers experience (none), I decided to go with 2 towables:

SportsStuff, Big Bertha at $99

HO Sports Formula 2 at $169

I figured that after everyone got some experience under their belts, that I would get a more "exciting" towable and possibly water skis or a kneeboard! Thanks again.

My all time favorite towable is the Turbo TWC by Hydroslide. It is a very smooth ride, and easy to stay on, but it's also great for kids. We have towed a 3 year old and 18 month old in this tube, with an adult with them of course. I enjoy the Big Bertha tube also, but be careful with the kids...their feet can be sucked in between the tube and the cover on the inside and cause injury to their ankles.
