i'm changing out a long to short shaft 6 hp johnson. removed lower unit today with no problem. disassembled water pump and removed drive shaft no problem. however i can not get the water tube to come out of the mid section. it will turn, but won't come out. what is the trick to removing  ?

also, i haven't tried to get the shift rod out of the lower unit yet. does it just unscrew?
and i know what you all are thinking. hopefully the manual will be here soon.

as always, thanks in advance.

Re: water tube and shift rod 6 hp

obj, thanks for the reply.

well the shift rod seems to be 1 complete assembly. are you saying you thought there should be a 5" extension?

i am supposed to be sending all parts (shift and driveshaft, mid section extension etc. to twin city outboards for an exchange to a short shaft kit. they indicated i am suppose to send the water tube also.

i have to remove 5" of water tube? that would require cutting it up inside the mid section wouldn't it? i'll take closer look tomorrow.

I think the water tube is flanged on the end brokeboater. Just cut it off to fit.

I thought the long shafts used a 5" shift rod connector. What was in yours???

ok. if i cut 5" off of the water tube it will require me cut it up inside the mid section approx 2". how is this accomplished without removing the tube? thanks
