I was having water circulation problems on this motor and have discovered the upper water tube grommet in 2 pieces and the upper piece has totally blocked flow. after removing the exhaust manifold to change out the grommet, I was checking the power-head on the bench with light air pressure. I discover that the passage to the overboard into the midsection only flow with thermostat in the open( in the bench check it was out) so water will not flow through this motor unless the thermostat is open. Is this normal. Shouldn't there be a bypass some where? all passage that can be check have been and are open. Thanks Robert

I think that sounds about right. The thermostat is there to keep the engine at a hot temperature so no flow when closed. I don"t know your motor but normally the overboard will be dumping water no matter what the stat is doing because the supply to the overboard does not go through the stat. That's why the water pump can be pumping and the overboard spewing and yet you get an overheat due to a variety of reasons. The only purpose the overboard has is to tell you the water pump is working. Sorry it took me so many words to say that. It's been a long day. Best of luck. Rick.

This is just a follow up. I replaced the upper water tube grommet and the thermostat. The motor now runs at a normal temperature of 125 degress. Thanks for the help and answering my questions.....Robert
