First of all a big thanks to Joe Reeves in florida for your advice and everything measured out properly on the lower end. What I did notice is when I hooked a garden hose up to the tube the engine was cooling fine but I did notice alot of water coming from where the tube goes into the power head. The lower end is pumping water but it looks like I am losing alot at the power head. so I am going to have to remove the power head. I have the seloc volume 2 johnson/evinrude outboard 1971 thru 1989 1 and 2 cylinder manual but it does not cover power head removal. I would like to repair it myself. Any advice on step by step would be greatly appreciated. By the the way it is a 1982 model.
