water water everywhere

Water is seeping/gushing from head gasket. Tried to unscre bolts to remove because Plugs have some sort of dark debris on them. I suspect very worn rings. Now a bolt is broken off in the head. Cannot remove without taking to a shop. What should I look to replace, head gasket, rings, what else? I've got a mechanic friend coming to help, need to know what to look for, replace. Prime time for fishing too. Thanks

Re: water water everywhere

That is a water jacket cover, not a head gasket. The cylinder in your merc is dome shaped and does not have a head.

All you will need is a new gasket, and to re-install the water jacket cover plate after you get that broken bolt fixed.

Try new plugs. They may just be gummed up from excessive trolling.

Carbs ever been cleaned?

Compression and spark test is a good plan.

Re: water water everywhere

Replacing water jacket gasket tomorrow. Today, got a compression tester. Not sure if I did it right. Pulled starter cord once then released the pressure on the tester valve. Did that five times for each cylinder. Gauged about 75 PSI each pull. If I don't release the pressure and give it five pulls, it gauges about 110 PSI on both cylinders. Which one of these is the correct measurement?
Carb = squeaky clean and both wires shoot a good blue spark .5 in. minimum.
I do have some fuel leaking from the front of the carb when I open the choke after pulling once with choke closed. Any thoughts? Float out of adjustment?
