I have a set of the Carhart Extreme coat and bibs. The black fabric. I don't have the $ to buy a set of insulated rain gear. Is there a good waterproofing agent out there that would help repel some rain? ScotchGard type or is there something else that use that will work?
What do you suggest?
Thanks
Dman

Re: Waterproofing

Ya, you can purchase canvas waterproofing in
sprays on cans, or you can get it in brush on
like paint cans. You should be able to get it
from any hardware store or probably walmart.
Their are different types depending on what
type of material you are waterproofing. I just
did my canvas wall tent last year and my
heli hansen ice fishing winter suite.

You should be able to get something at Gander Mountain or other large sporting goods store. I use a spray can product made by Browning, silicone free. I use it on my boots also. It works as good as any I've tried, better than most.

Re: Waterproofing

I second mellowyellow on a medium priced rain suit.

Aren't we supposed to dress in "layers" anyway.

Besides, it may not be possible to make it truly "waterproof" with any spray on (hot paraffin maybe :D ).

Also, you may goof up the thermal properties of the coat by adding something to the surface.

Re: Waterproofing

I think I'll try the spray stuff with a layer of raingear over it.
I go to a walleye tourney every year and it's usually 30 degrees with rain/sleet/snow/ect. Need warm gear and waterproof without sacrificing the bank account.
Thanks an bunch.
D
