waterpump housing question

I bought a new waterpump housing and was wanting to know how that crome cup piece goes inside the housing I'm guessing where the lip Part goes where the opening is on housing. 88 evinrude xp 150

It depends on how your cup looks.

If it's the kind with a separate disc and band. The disc goes in first. There is a little tang (bent up tab) that fits in a hole in the plastic housing. The band goes in next; once again there are tangs that allow it to mate up with the disc.

One piece cup has a tang in the top that allows it to fit in the plastic housing only one way.

Some models have an o-ring that goes between the top of the metal cup and the plastic housing.
