Waterpump Thermostat?

My 1996 9.9 Mariner outboard pumps great some of the time, then reduces flow to just a trickle. Does this motor have a thermostat which is controling flow, or do I need to replace the waterpump? The motor is stored in Canada, and used @ 2 weeks, twice a year.

probably the water impeller is bad. if it sits for a long period of time thats murder on them. when was the last time you had it changed?

Re: Waterpump Thermostat?

I have a 2000 Merc 9.9 two stroke. It does have a tstat that controls the flow. Drives me crazy sometimes.

I get the pump changed about every 3-5 years just to be safe, depending on the motor.

The only thing that concerns me is how hot the water is coming out of the motor. Is this normal?

Good Luck.

My 1991 9.9 with a thermostat will flow free then trickle, normal, been doing it since new. Never had the water pump replaced, motor is stored in cellar every winter.
