Re: waterpump

Hi mo-jo, welcome to the board.

Your shift rod comes up through the mid section and comes out right below your lower carb. You'll need to remove the retainer screw that connects the shift rod to the shift lever in order to drop the lower unit. This is best done with a 1/4" drive socket, long extension and universal joint on the end. Socket size is 3/8. Shift into Reverse so you can get at the screw. To replace, put a piece of masking tape in the socket to hold the screw till ya' get it in the hole.

I would also like to add that a service manual would be a great help to you. OEM service manuals are still available through any Johnny/Rude dealer. Good Luck!!

Ill second the motion on the OE service manual.

Take the pans off and life will be much eaier getting to that screw. Also change the entire pump - not just the impeller.

Good luck!

3rd on the OMC shop manual - I had a Clymer that wouldn't cut it & bought the OMC - I should have bought it 5 years ago.

Also great time to replace the T-stats.
