Wax Vs Bottom Paint

I am considering putting wax on the bottom of my boat instead of bottom paint, can any give me the pros and cons to this. I plan on leaving my boat at the doc this year instead of trailering it everywhere and need to keep the barnacles off. I don't really want to bottom paint the boat because I was told that it decreases performance and it is a bear to get off if you want the boat to look like new.
thanks for the advise

lingr: You would be hard pressed to find a boat at the docks without bottom paint. The growth on the bottom of your boat will decrease performance. I don't think you will notice much differance with bottom paint. If you don't want to paint and don't want to trailer, use a boat motel. The cost will not be much more than the dock space plus the diver to clean the bottom once or twice a month. You can wash down the boat after they pull it out of the water either on the forklift or in a rack outside

i'm in the same boat. decided on dolphinite's new clear bottom paint. i pull it on friday and plan to clean and paint this weekend. the product is based on their bottom coat, which supposedly improves performance. you can check out their website-

Re: Wax Vs Bottom Paint

Thanks for the advise, I have considered a so called boat motel, but wanted to weigh my options.

Matttt25, let me know how it all works out, I would be interested in seeing how the paint affects performance and how she looks once you are done painting.
