Honestly it is ridiculous to pay for a white box with a door on it $400-700 just because the call " T-Top electronics box"
This is robbery, probably cost to make one $60... Is anybody found a different made ( for different purpose ) but would work for us?
Is anybody ever made it of wood? I can't even find anything in Google... I will never would pay that much, I bout a Jon boat with motor and trailer for $400, will not pay $700 for a stupid box...

What do you need the box for? That might help someone point you in the right direction.

For use in your $400 jon boat?

I suspect if you spend the money for the radio/electronics equipment that is usually in those boxes, the $4-700 for the box is worth it. Esp a box that can be mounted to a t-top and suspend the weight of the electronics and box safely overhead.

I have a Kenner 18' Center console with a T TOP.
My point was what you can get for $400 :)

If you can make them for $60 and sell them for $400, why wouldn't you?

However let's look at it this way.

You have to engineer it to fit. Cost about $1000
You have to make the mold, $100 in materials and 20 hours of fully burdened labor ($1600) - total $1700

Now you can start making parts and you need to be epa compliant so you invest in proper equipment for the facilities. $30,000

Don't forget the marketing, website fees, etc.

Yes, $60 in materials, $200 in burdened labor and $100 in overhead.

$400 sounds about right for a low volume part that fits

$400 and $700 doesn't sound right. The manufacturing price much than less what you calculated. The problem is people are dumb enough to pay $700 for a plastic crap. And the price is high because it is for boats.. you can buy a molded small boat for $700! I will look around and will post if i will find something familiar. By the way "engineer to fit" ??? You can attach any size of box with clamps nicely to the T Top..

Ok, I think I found it. This is what I was exactly looking for, something to put my audio and speakers up there :

OK, I see what you're talking about. Yeah, looks like about 3 or 4 dollars worth of plastic maybe. It appears that there are at least 4 separate injection molded pieces there. Assuming the 2 speaker covers can be made in the same mold, you're talking about 3 injection molds at about $300,000 to $500,000 apiece. That's not counting design costs and some other stuff like factory overhead, process engineers and operators. Likely you would have about $1.5 million sunk cost before you mold the first part.
