I live Canton, Mississippi about 5 miles from the new Nissan truck plant. This past Saturday, the 24th, Nissan was conducting some sort of experiment by shooting a cannon up in the air to, as they claim, disperse bad weather from over the parking area for the new cars and trucks. Is there any merit to this?? All I know is every 5 to 10 seconds there was a pop then an explosion that was enough to make things in my house rattle. Thanks for any input you may have.

Nope; Dont know nothing about them.

Let us know what you find out though, sounds pretty wild.

Hope for your sake they don't like it as that would get annoying after a couple weeks.

We have small planes here that does cloud seeding
for the insurance companys, when it looks like
a hail storm is brewing. Never heard of a cannon
for that sort of thing?

Re: Weather Cannon

I called the sherrif's department to find out what it was and I didn't believe it when the guy told me what it was. He also told me that they had logged over 10,000 calls because of it. I asked if they could go arrest the manager on duty out there and charge him with disturbing the peace? He said he thought so but someone would have to file a complaint...I told him that I'd be down there to file it.

Some one fed you a line of BS........
You described a propane bird cannon used to scare away birds, most likely to keep them from shatting all over the new cars.
They use them @ landfills, orchards, etc.

Re: Weather Cannon

I'm familiar with the butane cannons to scare the birds. We have several that we use in our pecan orchards. I've also heard of shooting things up to try and make it rain but never to try and keep it from raining. A guy I work with has a son in law that works there and he verified the story. He said there at the plant it sounds like a soft whoosh but 5 miles away it rattles the walls. I honestly thought it was artilery fire.

I think bomar hit it on the head. Bird droppings can play havoc with paint...specially new paint.

Re: Weather Cannon

I really dont' think bird dropping have anything to do with it Reason being it was raining pretty hard all day that day which would have washed anything the birds donated to the cause away and bird dont generally fly much when its raining. Also, if that was the case why don't all car dealerships use them like now when black birds are migrating?

Too Bizzare... Well did it supposedly work? Are you sure you don't have some secret gov weapons plant around? I mean it sounds like a crazy military cover story :D Maybe they are really building MOABS in there.

They Farm raise fisher near my house and they shoot them off all the time to scare the birds away so that the fish can eat. Some times we even get in to fire a couple rounds with or pistols for practice shooting

They actually said that it was something that might possibly keep it from hailing. But you know there is a novel concept called a ROOF that would keep hail from damaging the cars. :p

Re: Weather Cannon

Hail cannons are supposed to create some sort of vibration in the sky that shatters hail into smaller stones making them less damaging. They are used around orchards and other stonefruit growing areas. Perhaps they are cheaper than many acres of under cover parking
As I said.. For the older generation.. it reminds me of Mister Haney and the "Pore Key" :D

It's a weapon to terminate those pesky inter-dimensional 6ft. space fleas.

Relax.. You can't see them. They are in a different dimension than us inferior humans.
The only thing that kills them is the exact sound and frequency of that cannon which so happens to run off on rain water with the correct saline content.

As far as the cops you called?... They were probably under the influence of the fleas.
They are attracted to coffee and doghnuts.

.
.
.
.
.
.
Watch of for the fleas....

:D

H.

Re: Weather Cannon

Last Monday when I posted this I also sent an email to a local television station's weather team. Thinking that a team of proffetional meteorologists could shed a little light on this. I got a reply back from both of them saying it sounds pretty hokey to them. then around noon I got a call from one of the news anchors at the same station wanting an on camera interview. Who knows I might be getting my 15 minutes of fame here!!!!! :D
