Weber convertion for AQ130c

Hi All
I have bought a Weber twin choke conversion for my old AQ130C and after I bought it the inlet manifold will not fit due to the neck on the manifold not being long enough, it fouls the exhaust manifold and on the old manifold it is a longer neck so that when it is bolted together there is a stud with a nut and thick washer which holds them both in place.
I did manage to stop it fouling the exhaust manifold by grinding a bit off and tried a long bit of heavy tube to hold the inlet manifold with the exhaust but due to the restricted amount of space on the stud it is not sealing very well starts OK but won't tick over due I would imagine to leaky manifold.

My question is has anybody converted their engine with this single weber carb I live in the UK and bought my kit here but the kits are also sold in the US with the same manifold.

Hope someone can help and get me out of the you know what

Obviously nobody has done this conversion so will keep messing about with it and try and come up with a fix

Thanks for the info, main problem is making sure I get a good seal between inlet and exhaust manifold due to the new inlet manifold is a lot shorter on the leg than the one that came off, tried some long tube to hold inlet manifold and making it the same length as the exhaust manifold but I have some leaks because it won't tick over I have bought some REINOSIL sealing compound I think it is going to be a fiddly job so just take my time with plenty of patience I think.

Because both manifolds on the old set-up were the same length there was the long stud with a very thick washer and nut that applied the same pressure to both manifolds, I think with plenty of sealing compound I may be lucky, it is a job to explain the problem unless you can see the actual manifold that come off.

Have to agree, not actually seeing what you have is an issue. Any way you can post a pic?

As you can see problem with the depth of the new manifold up to the old one, I used a piece of tube to try and hold them both together at the same torque but as photo I am not happy with the amount of contact with the new manifold so I am going to make up some offset brackets the trouble is that is the largest tube I can use due to the amount of gap on the studs and manifold.

I see your issue, this will need a thin wall tube with a piece welded to it to make up the distance. May also be able to take it to a good aluminum welder and build a boss up on which could be cut down.

My next question is which kit number did you buy?

I have found Weber conversion kits and most come up as car kits, I'm wondering if you got one of those instead of the marine side. As before I have not done this just digging and trying to find answers to your issues

I went into a web search for an AQ130c weber conversion and this is the conversions that came up that is in the UK and US they all showed the same manifold but clearly they are fine for the B20 engine but not the marine version although they are all saying can be used on the AQ130c.

I phoned the person that supplied my kit and he was surprised it did not fit and said he had sold a lot of these but didn't know if they were using it for the marine engine so it has turned out to be a right pig of a job if these suppliers were supplying the correct manifold it would have been an easy job.

I sent these photo's to a supplier in America as he requested but has failed to reply same manifold and he says suitable for AQ130c engine so just a warning for any other member wanting to do the same conversion make sure you get the marine manifold.

As you can see by the photo to have a boss welded on to the tube it will have to be offset because of the stud clearance one side is minimal, I could not return the kit as I already tried the modification and manifold got damaged as you can see I was not aware they did a marine manifold because none came up on my search

Sorry but I'm coming up empty. I'm also thinking that instead of adding something to a thin tube it might be better to explore welding a boss onto the manifold. Once there then grind to fit

Yes as you say it needs something substantial to hold it in place not a bodge up it just annoys me the 3 suppliers I spoke to before buying the kit was they all said the manifold would fit as the B20 was the same engine so they obviously don't know the set-up of the marine B20, I would have been quite happy to have paid the extra but as it stands instead of doing a quick mod I have a major problem on my hands and I am not well pleased.

Thanks for all your feedback I wanted to get this done as soon as possible so I could winterise my engine as it is getting a bit cold down the marina now.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year AllDodge thanks for all your help I have done as you said and also used some gasket seal just to be on the safe side.

So the B20 is usable for the AQ130 but you need a little patience fired up first time and adjusted tick-over and throttle adjustment as well.
