I have an 1973 85 hp evinrude on my 30 ft pontoon. Im thinking of buying a 175 hp 1998 6cyc evinrude to use. What is the weight differance in the 2. Im trying to figure out if this will work. Thanks

Re: weight differance!

Is your boat rated for that much power?

If not be sure to teather the new motor to the boat so it will be easier to recover after it rips your transom out.

The weight of the motor is the lessor consideration, it is the torque it puts on the transom that causes the problem, just be sure your motor pan is rated for the 175.
