Lake, ocean, bathtub, puddle, bucket ... any body of water you put the boat in.

Gotta' admit though, the curiosity is kinda' overwhelming. What are ya' trying to do?

ohmybleepinggod:facepalm:

well, put it this way, if the coast guard does not catch you, the DEP might, and keep in mind, they are NEXT to the USCG, the most powerful enforcement branch in EVERY state...............

also, keep in mind 86% of ALL accidents on the water are from SINKING and CAPSIZED boats............... coincidence, nope, doubt it .............

Thank you all for the response..My question sounded idiotic but I'm quite a newbie. Just bought a 2nd hand boat and I want to learn everyting I need to know to keep my family safe before I take the boat to the lake..

Trust us. Overloaded sucks ;) It makes everything worse, in particular it is a legitimate safety issue. Sorry if we come off as arrogant, it's just that we kinda know.

Re: Weight limit

To keep your family truly safe, do the following:

Take a boating course
Inspect every inch of your boat for rot (especially the transom area) and/or areas in disrepair
Make sure you have ALL safety gear aboard (PFDs, fire extinguisher, etc etc)

And DO NOT OVERLOAD YOUR BOAT. Sounds like your boat can handle around 4 people(given the weight range of your friends)

... or, find ya' a nice beach and rotate riders. We've done that several times, and have even parked a pontoon out on the lake to act as a base while we towed skiers and tubers around.

Definitely don't overload the boat ... it's real easy to get swamped that way.

Pedro, keep in mind your 750 max weight is EVERYTHING onboard: people, gear, fuel, water, coolers, beachbags, etc. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can get to max weight when you consider ALL the stuff that gets onboard. Good Luck.

I would be willing to bet that the 750lbs is person capacity. that is really low for a 17.5 foot boat. That would give him an actual person capacity of 5 at a total passenger weight of 750lbs. There should be two weights on your capacity plate. One will give you passenger weight capacity, one will give you total capacity of persons, motor, and gear. Double check that.
