I'm looking at getting an older type tinny as they seem to be cheaper and of a better quality than the newer boats. One restriction I have is the towing capacity of my car is 500kg unbraked. I'm trying to find out the approximate weight of some of the older tinnies (4.2m Quintrex Fishabout MkII, 4m de Havilland etc).Any info would be appreciated

Re: Weight of older tinnies

Hi Kevin,

I don't have details on your specific boat. Your best bet is to have it taken to somewhere with a scale, and get an accurate measure. Locally, we can get those done at municipal landfills (dumps), and at weigh stations for trucks. I don't know who would do it in Australia. The difficulty in estimating a number is the weight will vary depending on the trailer, motor, and other options. In addition, if there have been changes to the boat (waterlogged foam for example), that will significantly alter the weight.

Re: Weight of older tinnies

Quintrex has made so many different boats over the years, hard to tell what each would weigh.
(They are like Lund or Starcraft here in the states)

I would send an email to Quintrex and ask them, they should have historical data on file.

My guess is that even one of the older 4.2 (14') with a 30 hp motor and trailer will weigh 500 to 600kg.
